Because “6 parts” is not equivalent to “3 parts”. The ratio is the same, but the amount of parts is not. Very easy.
UNITS. But units are a DIFFERENT question than equivalent fractions. SMH.
If you have pizza sliced in 6 pieces, you can feed 4 kids with 4/6 of the pizza, but 2/3 of pizza will cause wars. Even though it’s the same amount of pizza, division matters.
I watched the video and it just confirmed to me the question is not valid. Fractions are a portion compared to a whole, not portions of two different whole values compared. Even with two different whole quantities the ratio formed by the fraction is still equivalent. The percentages are equal.
Wait until you come to Taiwan and the teachers are telling you 2x3 =/= 3x2.
The question was worded incorrectly… that would be my answer
What you do is important. Im in my 20s and you made me realize i should have gone into medicine, it never even occurred to me that i could be capable of that. Im autistic and certain categories of medicine are bascially my obsessions. I should have taken advantage of that. Im sure you've inspired hundreds of young girls
Thank you so much Dr Igudia, for your full dedication to your work, and the knowledge you compose. I am very happy and proud that I’m cured of Genital Herpes, after a long time of suffering. Thanks Dr you did good
As a health physics technician I can assure you 2/3 is 4/6. I believe it is worded incorrectly, or means how to you make them not equal the same thing. Apples. If you have 2 of 3 whole apples you cannot make 4/6 without cutting
This is undeniably very fckn cool.❤
My insurance company denied my hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy stating they didn't cover infertility treatments. Some nonMD desk jockey saw the word endometriosis in the report. 💜✌️
i was just talking about this the other day! thank you for the reminder Doc 🫶🏽
Wokies writing the curriculum. 😂
That's a huge bald spot. You need to comb over.
Either it was a very stupid question or they wanted the kids to say that they are equivalent but the 2/3 is the proper expression.
And heres a new subscriber 😂❤
2/3=4/6😂
Love her energy ❤😊
Who ever composed the question is an idiot who's trying to frustrate children into hating/leaving maths
I think the teacher either did this and is wrong or did this for the clever answers kids would come up with answering the question
I think I get it. But unfortunately the question could also be phrased “show graphically how 2/3s is not always the same as 2/3s. You divide several shapes into 3 equal areas and color in any 2 of them and/or another set of shapes divided into 6 areas and color in any combination of 4 areas. There will be a number of distinct patterns available that don’t look the same. If that doesn’t make the question have a plausible answer, then you have to draw in another dimension like thickness, this could represent a different property, like mass, at this point you can show that the center of gravity of these shapes is in different locations. Third graders are extraordinary, especially the boys who have time to figure this out while not wondering why they feel shy in front of 3rd grade girls while at the same time trying to figure out what the older kids told them “thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife” from that sign hanging in all their classrooms is all about.
Thank you, Doctor!
Basically just said “if one is bigger than the other then it’s gonna be bigger than the other”. How embarrassing
2/3 can also be expressed as 8/12, 16/24, 32/48, and so on.
Daaaaaayng! Quite the flex
I assume it is woke math.
What the hell?!
If I had to guess the answer goes something like ... The ratio 2/3 and 4/6 are equivalent however the actual quantities they may represent are dependant on starting values, or ratio of what? Ie. 2/3 of 9 is 6 2/3 of 24 is 16 The question is maybe meant to highlight that percentages are independent of the explicit values they are being used to represent.
Is that like 2+2 does not always = 4? I think the mid wits in government schools can’t help but show their ideology even in math.
70 yr old Retired Field Ecologist - I was first woman in 3 of 4 of my positions in my career. Now the female:male is 1:2. However, papers judged important by editors are still more heavily male. Females have made progress but not fast enough. Girls-if you like to play in the dirt, wonder what roots are doing and like to know what bugs pollinate a plant, GO FOR IT, BEING AN ECOLOGIST IS FOR YOU!
I'm a woman in Illinois I hate going to the dr because...I'm never taken seriously in spite of sticklers syndrome and 3 artificial joints a surgical L4-L5. I had a total knee replacement and within the first 3 days I was made to go the 4th and 5th and 6th day with absolutely no pain meds. They made my boyfriend act as my joint partner" I'm 5 years later and I can't trust medical community because of my past. When my hip collapsed at 23 due to avascular necrosis they sent me to a psychiatrist because I'm a woman apparently we are so powerful our minds can collapse our joints
Dude the DOCTOR thirst trap goes HARD
The idea is to show how a sixth of something is smaller than a third of something. Draw 2 circles and label one 4/6 and the other 2/3. Then draw lines through the circles until they look like pies but the 4/6 circle has 6 pieces and the 2/3 circle has 3 pieces. Color/shade 2/3 or 4/6 of the circle (based of the fraction that labels them). Then write some variation of the following: When you have 2/3 and 4/6 of something it looks like the same ammount. But, 1/3 of something will always have a bigger individual slice than if you have 2/6 of the same thing.
Wish more Dr advocated for their patients
The fraction 2/3 is mathematically equivalent to 4/6 because when you simplify 4/6 by dividing both the numerator and the denominator by 2, you get 2/3 . However, there are certain contexts or circumstances where they might not be considered equivalent: Mathematical Operations: If you’re performing operations that involve the denominators specifically, such as finding a common denominator or comparing fractions with different denominators, you might treat them differently. Ingredients in Recipes: In cooking, if a recipe specifically requires two-thirds of a cup, using four-sixths might be seen as incorrect due to practical measurement issues. Educational Settings: In a math class, if the task is to simplify fractions, writing 4/6 instead of 2/3 might be marked as incorrect. Computer Programming: When dealing with floating-point arithmetic in computer programming, 2/3 and 4/6 might not be exactly equivalent due to rounding errors. Real-world Measurements: In measurements where precision is key, such as scientific experiments or engineering, the process of simplifying or converting fractions might introduce negligible but technically present differences. In most practical and theoretical scenarios, however, 2/3 and 4/6 are equivalent and interchangeable. It’s important to consider the context to determine if they can be treated as the same.
Genuinely scares me that so many men are In charge of
It’s a trick question. The answer is that you cannot ever draw a diagram that shows 2/3 is not always equal to 4/6, since they are equal.
Omg I have this relationship with peanut butter, too!!!
I love you lady spine doc!!!!!
You got to do what you got to do
I have sticklers syndrome severe glaucoma on 10% of living optical nerve my left eye has completely stopped tracking
It has something to do with the total and partial amounts represented by the numerators and denominators. Like four of six items is not equal to two of three of the same item type. Yes it's still 2/3s but four bicycles are not the same as two bicycles. I guess it's word games and trying to think creatively. But at 8 years of age? This was along the lines of something I did in college in the 70s. It messed me up, but I see the point attempting to be made.
If I had to take a guess, 2/3 is a simplified answer of 4/6, but think of it as groups of people. If you have 4 people going on a roller coaster ride together out of a group of 6 It’s different than 2 going on the same roller coaster out of 3 people. Both are technically 2/3rds of the group, but sometimes you can’t “simplify” something in the real world. That’s how I’d interpret the question.
Vicks is great for burns! I hope you feel better soon 🙏
I’m Riley 😂😂
Same!
The dumbing down of society. If 2/3 is not equal to 4/6 then boys can be girls.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
😂❤ lol love it! Great memories .kids are amazing
a pie chart it's still equivalent but it looks different.
Call it a trick question. With fractions you always reduce the fraction as far as you can do 4/6 reduces down to 2/3. Maybe if they are talking about negative integers so -4/6 isn't the same as 4/6 or 2/3 but -4/6 still reduces to -2/3 so it's a trick question. That's why they want you to show your work, they want you to show the method you used to show the two aren't always equivalent. But you can't unless you use positive verses negative numbers. BS question. You can't.
